Make Football Great Again

Keep Trump and Taylor Swift out of it.

After driving into the city to experience the drone show the night before the game, it was amazing to watch my hometown Philadelphia Eagles win the NFC Championship on Sunday. I was rooting for the Buffalo Bills because I didn’t want to have to see the Birds face the Chiefs again in the Super Bowl after losing to them in 2023 on a bullshit pro-KC ref call.

You could say I’m a typical disgruntled Eagles fan. We get that the sports world hates us, and we don’t care.  We’ll have to carry that Rocky Balboa underdog energy once again to New Orleans on February 9. The Eagles thrive on “the hunt,” but can they overcome the NFL script of crybaby Patrick Mahomes who admits to flopping to get his way and seems to have an MVP ref player on the field in every game? #RIGGED was the top trending hashtag during the AFC Championship game on Sunday, and unsurprisingly, the new President interjected himself into the NFL narrative as well.

In 2018 when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, they were disinvited from the White House by Trump because of racism, so when the Chiefs and their MVP refs won Sunday, he congratulated them and not the Eagles for the win (even fake-winning Pennsylvania didn’t change his tune!). Trump hates the Eagles because he knows the city would never vote for him, and because he got attacked by an actual Bald Eagle named Uncle Sam in the most symbolic American thing to ever happen in the White House. It has to be tough for him to be cheering on the same team as his most-hated celebrity Taylor Swift, and one of the reasons I won’t be able to stand watching the game is that instead of watching football, I’ll be watching Swift reactions to football. I hope the Eagles post a photo of the traitorous Philadelphian Swift in her Birds jacket from the days before her romance to the less-cool Kelce brother.

I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist, but it’s hard to ignore the NFL when it comes to the Chiefs. Consider the Super Bowl logo theory: the logo is released a year in advance. Why then, if released last year, does the Super Bowl LIX logo already feature the colors of the Chiefs and the Eagles?

Nothing’s impossible when it comes to the Eagles; we kept a ring off Tom Brady’s hand. When I watched the drone show the other night in Philadelphia overlooking the art museum, the song that played from a car stereo was the Rocky theme. We love that underdog shit, and the Chiefs are only favored to win by 1.5 points. Last time the Birds met the Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl, we didn’t have Saquon Barkley (thanks, Giants!) “playing at an MVP level for the Eagles. He posted 442 yards and five touchdowns in the team’s three NFC playoff games and can help Philadelphia keep Mahomes on the sideline by controlling the clock and game in New Orleans.”

I know lots of Eagles fans who’d love to see sad Taylor Swift reaction shots, Mahomes flopping around and spending time on the sideline, and Trump not inviting us to the White House so we don’t have to go.

  • You get upset when anyone fact checks you. You’re supposed to be a journalist, yet you write that the Eagles were disinvited from the White House because of “racism.” But the disinvitation, as evidenced by the very link you provided via NPR, was due to the fact that the Eagles organization would not promise that the team would stand with hand on heart for the national anthem. Once again, you are spreading misinformation.
